About

Hi, I'm Robin. Therapist, writer and neuroscience geek.

For more specific information about working with me, you might like to read the How I work or FAQ pages.

My name is Robin Wilkinson and I am the founder and director of Right Relationship. I’m a psychotherapist with a passion for helping people establish connection and safety in their lives and relationships.

I’ve practiced as a psychotherapist since 2015 and worked in the field of personal health for over 20 years. During that time, I’ve worked with countless people from many walks of life. It’s a privilege to hear people’s stories, help them develop tools for their own healing and transformation, and witness the personal growth that follows.

It’s important to me to practice what I preach. I have been (and continue to receive) my own extensive psychotherapy. I have been in a committed and loving relationship with my partner for over a decade and attend couple’s therapy as a means of constantly growing and supporting our relationship.

I understand what it’s like to be sitting on your side of the therapy room!

My training

My career arose from my background as a bodywork practitioner in shiatsu therapy (Japanese acupressure). I commenced formal study in 2003 at Shiatsu Australia and later at the Australian Shiatsu College.

The thing I enjoyed most as a shiatsu therapist was the period post-treatment, when clients would often open up on their personal issues or tell me about insights that had arisen for them. Because of this, my shiatsu treatments grew into informal counselling sessions. These sessions, and a strong interest in psychology, led me to pursue psychotherapy more formally. Additionally, I was motivated by my own healing and self-inquiry journey, and how I could put the knowledge I’d gained during that into practice.

As a practising therapist, I found myself drawn to working with couples and relationships. I saw time and again how, as people progressed in therapy, their personal relationships improved and deepened. Experience and further study drew me to the conclusion that connection is central to healing.

Connection encompasses more than relating to other people. It includes connection to our bodies, beings, families, communities, cultures and even the natural world around us. Deep connection and healthy relationships are integral to personal growth and well being. As the saying goes, no body is an island.

My interests

Since then, I have explored such areas as relational and developmental trauma, effective communication, authentic relating, conscious intimacy, mindfulness, neo-tantra and the role of movement and body in therapy. I’m blown away by the wisdom we possess inside and the profound and lasting change that occurs when we learn how to access that wisdom. I’ve studied and practised many different breathing, movement and body awareness techniques, such as the Wim Hof Method, dynamic breathing, functional movement systems, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Butoh (Japanese ritual theatre), qi gong, and more. I’m also a qualified hatha yoga instructor and Non-Linear Movement Method® teacher. I also facilitate group healing and personal development workshops with Innate Wisdom Connection.

In addition to my being a therapist, I am an award-winning writer and poet. I’ve been published in several Australian journals, as well as featuring in Best Australian Poetry. I am advocate for men’s health, supporting men to overcome the challenges of life as a man in the twenty-first century. I’ve been a committee member for Island of Men and currently sit on the Menergy Leadership Circle.

I’ve keenly explored shamanic, esoteric and ritual technologies and I am fascinated by human potential. I maintain a developed, personal spiritual practice. Although I keep these interests separate from my professional work, I have found that many people are keen for ways of fostering more creativity and spirituality into their lives and relationships, and I have provided guidance around this when requested.
